Kodiak Represents the Future of the Gulf Coast

In the days leading up to the August 29, 2006 anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, The Sun Herald, the most widely read paper on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, devoted special issues to the storm and its aftermath. For the front page of its August 27 Sunday edition, the paper chose a picture of a Kodiak Steel Homes® model to represent its focus on rebuilding and the future of the region. The massive red-iron frame shown in the picture is a Windmaster Bayside that was under construction in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

Also, John House, president of Kodiak Steel Homes, Inc., was selected to make a special presentation at Governor Haley Barbour's Hurricane Recovery Expo held in Biloxi, Mississippi August 11-13, 2006.

Kodiak Customers Chosen for Model Energy Project

A Kodiak Steel Homes Augusta model being built in Tumbling Shoals, Arkansas was chosen for First Electric Cooperative's model energy home project. Nationally known expert Doug Rye developed the specifications for the insulation and other energy-saving features and is guaranteeing the results. Willie Stone Construction is acting as general contractor for homeowners Wesley and Dawn Howard. We supplied the Howards a complete dry-in package including all the structural and interior framing, the steel roof system, and Norandex-Reynold's Polar Wall insulated vinyl siding for exterior walls of this Kodiak Steel Homes Augusta model.

See Kodiak on Television

The Discovery Networks produced a documentary called Sixteen Children and Moving In which details the saga of the Duggar family — all 18 of them — and their efforts to finish their beautiful new Kodiak Steel Homes model. We promise it has a very happy ending. This show originally aired on The Learning Channel (TLC) and has since been re-run several times on Discovery Health as well as TLC. Since then, Discovery has produced at least two more specials on the Duggars, both of which feature their impressive home. These shows are rebroadcast often, so keep an eye out for them in your local satellite and cable listings.

Kodiak vs Katrina Battle Makes Local Paper

In addition to destroying property and disrupting people's lives, Hurricane Katrina put several small newspapers in southern Louisiana out of commission. Three of them combined their remaining resources to form The St. Tammany News, which now serves the communities north of Lake Pontchartrain. In its April 3rd, 2006 edition the News recounted the story of a Kodiak Steel Homes customer whose steel home and garage not only survived winds up to 185 mph, but withstood 90-foot pine trees crashing onto their roofs. Kodiak in Smart Home Owner

Aimed at the homeowner, buyer, or builder who looks for high quality, energy efficiency, cost effectiveness, and environmental responsibility, Smart Home Owner pays close attention to emerging trends and new technologies in home construction. Its article "Steel Frames Enter the Mainstream" in the May/June issue suggests that using steel framing is "building smart," and goes on to outline many of the same benefits of steel that you will find discussed in this web site. Interviews with members of our staff provided Smart Home Owner with some of its source material, and the article lists Kodiak Steel Homes as a resource for information and products.
